With a valiant 163-run defense in Lucknow, the Lucknow Super Giants won their third game in a row and their first over the Gujarat Titans in five attempts. After the host team chose to bat, Marcus Stoinis’ first half-century of the season provided the necessary support.
Although the Titans got off to a strong start in their pursuit for runs, Yash Thakur recorded a maiden five-for to help blow the session apart.
LSG Innings
The LSG batting effort was rarely fluent, captain KL Rahul and Stoinis opting for accumulation after Umesh Yadav had struck twice with the new ball. Both fell when looking to up the ante and it needed flashes of power from Nicholas Pooran plus a cameo from Ayush Badoni to get them up to a respectable score.
Fittingly, LSG triumphed by 33 runs thanks to a brilliant full-ball start from Yash Thakur, who also claimed five wickets in the last over. GT lost wickets in plenty as Ravi Bishnoi and Krunal Pandya produced outstanding spells in the wake of Yash’s demise.
GT Innings
Gujarat Titans had a great start, going up to 54 on the powerplay after GT captain Shubman Gill was replaced by Player of the Match Yash Thakur (5 for 30). After that, BR Sharath and Sai Sudharsan (31 off 23) were removed by Krunal Pandya (3 for 11) in the same over, and GT lost three wickets for just five runs in the next eleven balls.
GT lost all hope when Pandya dismissed Darshan Nalkande in the 13th over, and Yash Thakur expertly finished the job. Not a single batsman able to show determination to chase down the target.
Victory For LSG
They prevailed in this exciting match thanks to their outstanding performance with the bat and the ball, demonstrating their determination and talent for the 2024 IPL season. Their victory gave their campaign additional points and demonstrated their tenacity and spirit of competition in the league.
