Violence marred the electoral process at Polling Station 3/11 located in Moirang Kampu Saieb under Khurai Assembly Constituency, as an armed confrontation left a 75-year-old voter injured on Monday.
Eyewitnesses recounted the scene where armed miscreants, allegedly threatening polling agents, opened fire after being challenged by local residents.
According to a witness, a group of approximately five armed individuals arrived in a car and entered the polling station premises. Upon being confronted by vigilant youths, the armed assailants exited the area.
Subsequently, a confrontation ensued, resulting in gunfire, with one elderly man sustaining a bullet injury.
“The armed miscreants fired towards the civilian, injuring a 75-year-old man,” stated a witness who wished to remain anonymous for safety reasons.
The injured voter was evacuated to Raj Medicity Hospital, where medical personnel declared his condition stable. However, the armed perpetrators managed to flee the scene before authorities could intervene effectively.
In the aftermath of the incident, reports indicate that voting operations at Polling Station 3/11
were disrupted as enraged locals vented their frustration by destroying election-related documents.
