Only 88 for 2
This is the season’s equal second-highest-scoring powerplay. The Delhi Capitals are scoring at 14.66 per over. Washington Sundar bowled a 30-run over, while Pat Cummins bowled a 20-run over. Jake Fraser McGurk is on 46 from 13 balls and has added 63 from 24 balls with Abishek Porel.
Unfortunately for the Capitals, Sunrisers Hyderabad batted earlier today and broke the all-time T20 powerplay record of 125 for no loss.
You have been Fraser-McGurked
Yes, it’s a verb now, and Washington Sundar knows what it feels like. This young Australian hitter is one of the cleanest cricket ball strikers you’ll ever see, with a baseballer’s approach to the ball and a golfer’s swing down the line. He just did this in the third over in the Capitals’ chase.
Two down.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled an exceptionally off-target over, beginning with three wides down the leg side to David Warner, but it demonstrates the strain bowlers are facing to limit width against batsmen like Warner on fields like these.
But Bhuvneshwar finishes the over triumphantly, dismissing his former skipper with a knuckleball into the pitch. Warner fails to respond defensively or offensively to the ball, and it bounces to mid-off, where Pat Cummins dives forward to make a terrific, low catch.
Shawstopper, Shawstopped
These are the first five balls of the Delhi Capitals’ chase. SRH started with Washington Sundar, and they may have had the left-handed match-up in mind when they gave him the new ball. But he faced Prithvi Shaw, the Capitals’ impact sub, and his first four balls were surgically despatched through infield gaps.
The fifth ball, however, is slower and delivered with a lot of overspin. Washington chooses to attempt to beat the batter in the air, even if it means going for extra runs. Shaw is caught in the covers after a poorly executed loft.
