Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee decried over presidential speech presented during the recent joint session of the parliament for not mentioning anything about the ongoing Manipur crisis.

Addressing the media during a press conference held today at Congress Bhavan, the working president of MPCC, Kh Devabrata said that the Congress Party of Manipur feel humiliated and frustrated with the speech by the president of India during the joint session of both houses of parliament held on June 27.

Congress party thought that the president would surely mention about Manipur conflict as it is a serious crisis the country is facing. But on the contrary it, she didn’t utter anything about it which is very unfortunate.

“State government and union government have already announced that narco-terrorist and influx armed militants are waging war against Manipur. At this level of seriousness, the president of India fails to mention Manipur in her speech as a complete humiliation to the people of the state,” he stated while asserting that the Manipur issue is a concern of national security.

As per the provision of the constitution, it is the duty of the president of India to inform anything debatable to the MP during the joint session, he informed.

While saying that paragraph 30 of her speech mentioned the spirit of Parliament is to work with common issues and common goals, he questioned whether the Manipur crisis is not of national importance.

He said that presidential speech is normally framed by the cabinet. As such president of India not mentioning about Manipur crisis in her speech seems to signify that the prime minister will continue to neglect the crisis.

Devabrata also strongly denied the statement made by the president in her speech relating to the settlement of disputes in northeast states.

The President of India said that most of the disputes in northeast India have been resolved in the last 10 years. However, the Congress party hasn’t seen any settlement of the dispute in reality, he claimed.
