Guwahati, Assam: What happens when engineering, technology and environmental sustainability come together under one roof? AVINYA 2026, the flagship hackathon of Prakriti Club, IIT Guwahati, is attempting to answer exactly that by challenging young innovators to build solutions for some of the most pressing environmental problems of today.
Organised by Prakriti Club in collaboration with Techniche, IIT Guwahati, AVINYA is not positioned as a conventional coding competition. The challenge revolves around real-world issues including climate change, energy transition and sustainability, giving participants an opportunity to use technology as a tool for environmental impact.
From an Idea on a PPT to a Live Prototype
The structure of AVINYA is designed to take participants through the complete innovation journey.
The competition begins with an elimination round, where teams select a problem statement and develop a detailed solution proposal. Participants are expected to communicate their idea through a PowerPoint submission, demonstrating their understanding of the problem, proposed technology and potential impact.
The shortlisted teams then move to the much more demanding second stage.
The final round takes place at IIT Guwahati during Techniche, where selected teams get the opportunity to present their ideas and participate in an intensive 24–30 hour live hackathon. Unlike the initial round, participants will face fresh problem statements provided by industry experts and companies, requiring teams to think, build and adapt under significant time constraints.
This two-stage structure makes AVINYA particularly interesting for students who want to experience more than just submitting an idea. The journey moves from problem identification → solution design → selection → live building → presentation.

What Makes Prakriti Club Different?
AVINYA is backed by Prakriti Club, IIT Guwahati, the institute’s techno-environment club and its second-oldest club. The club operates under the Technical Board of the Student Gymkhana and works at the intersection of technology and environmental stewardship.
Its existing projects demonstrate the same philosophy behind AVINYA.
Prakriti Club has worked on aquaponics, AI/ML-based tree identification, dual-axis solar tracking, smart plantation robotics and soilless culture. Its activities also extend to plantation drives, lake clean-ups, biodiversity initiatives, eco-walks and environmental awareness programmes.
In other words, AVINYA is an extension of the club’s existing approach: build technology, understand the environment and create solutions that have practical impact.
A Student-Led Innovation Ecosystem
The 2026–27 executive council of Prakriti Club is headed by students responsible for different aspects of the organisation, including events, projects, outreach, media and technology.
Among them is Arpan Nishu, Secretary of Prakriti Club, IIT Guwahati. The official club website also credits him with designing and developing the Prakriti Club website.
The student-led nature of the organisation is significant because events like AVINYA require much more than a competition platform.
