Guwahati, August 28, 2026: The Northeast could play a larger role in India’s emerging space economy by leveraging its geography, biodiversity and technological talent, experts said during discussions in Guwahati.
A Northeast India Space Workshop brought together policymakers, industry representatives, startups, academia and space-sector stakeholders to discuss opportunities for the region.
Experts highlighted applications including satellite connectivity, disaster management, agriculture, environmental monitoring and geospatial technologies.
The region’s geographical position also gives it strategic importance as India strengthens economic and technological links with Southeast Asia.
Rather than remaining primarily a consumer of space technology, the Northeast could develop startups and institutions capable of creating space-enabled solutions for regional challenges.
Discussions at the workshop focused on developing a longer-term regional vision for participation in India’s growing commercial space ecosystem.
