Shenzhen, August 28, 2026: Chinese technology giant Tencent has released a preview version of a new open-source artificial intelligence model aimed at coding, research and financial applications.

The model reflects the growing competition among technology companies to develop AI systems capable of performing complex professional tasks.

Open-source AI models allow developers and researchers to inspect, modify and deploy systems in ways that can be more flexible than proprietary platforms.

Tencent’s move adds another major Chinese technology company to the increasingly competitive global AI landscape.

AI models specialising in software engineering are attracting particular attention because they can potentially automate parts of programming, debugging, research and technical analysis.

The release also highlights the continuing expansion of China’s domestic AI ecosystem and the growing competition between Chinese and US technology companies.
