IPL 2024: Mayank Yadav always has the intention of creating pace with each ball, even though the main focus is on claiming as many wickets as possible in a winning purpose.
Talented fast bowlers are sometimes advised to give up speed in exchange for greater variety, but Mayank Yadav was given some excellent advice early on by his legendary Delhi elder Ishant Sharma: never give up speed in order to develop other abilities.
In an interview with Jio Cinema, India’s newest pace sensation, after having already bowled the fastest delivery of the Indian Premier League (IPL) season (156.7 kmph) against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), talked about the advice he received from senior pacer Navdeep Saini and veteran Ishant, who has played more than 100 Tests.
Ishant bhai and Saini bhai, two of the bowlers I talked with in Delhi, advised me to play at my own pace even if I wanted to try something different.
Mayank stated, “I don’t need to add any skills that could compromise my speed; if I want to add a new skill, it should be around my speed.”
Even if getting as many wickets as possible in a winning cause is the main goal, he always has the intention of creating speed with each ball.
My focus is on taking wickets and making a contribution to the team rather than on pace. But I always have in the back of my mind that I have to bowl deliveries with some pace.
I always want to know what the fastest speed was throughout a match, but during the game, I’m just concerned with bowling.”
Yadav has received great appreciation for his efforts thus far; his most recent outing against RCB last night saw him go three for 14.
