No team had beaten CSK in the previous three games at Chepauk this season. No team has been here and chased down 211. LSG accomplished both in the same match, with Marcus Stoinis scoring a spectacular century.
With 17 runs needed from the last over, Stoinis rocketed the first one over long-on before hitting the next straight back for four. Luck also favored him as the following one raced to the right of short third. Fizz had overstepped as well, reducing the equation to two needed from four balls.
Stoinis then stepped across and finished with a short ball over backward square leg.
Sampath adds that Stoinis now holds the highest individual score in an IPL chase, surpassing Paul Valthaty’s 120* against CSK in 2011.
As a consequence, LSG is now fourth in the points standings, having accumulated 10 points from eight games. CSK drops to sixth.
