The 23rd edition of the Frames Film Festival continued on 6th February 2026 at SIES (Nerul) College of Arts ,Science and Commerce (Autonomous) with a compelling focus on documentary and animation cinema. Centered around the theme Kirdaar.

The second day explored ideas of role responsibility and purpose examining how characters whether real or imagined shape narratives that carry meaning truth and impact. Organised by the Department of Multimedia and Mass Communication the festival reaffirmed its vision of cinema as a medium that extends beyond entertainment to reflect social realities creative imagination and ethical storytelling.

The documentary segment presented a thoughtfully curated selection of non fiction films that explored social issues personal journeys and cultural narratives with depth and sensitivity. The segment was evaluated by filmmaker and media professional Ms Divya Unny and documentary filmmaker Mr Anu Moothedath both recognised for their commitment to socially conscious and ethically responsible storytelling.
Their insightful evaluation emphasised the importance of narrative integrity ethical representation and responsibility in documentary filmmaking. The shortlisted films Yamuna’s Sewage Treatment Plant, Dear Sikhonkwane, Flugten Fra Herstedvester ,Be Better, Return To The Sky ,Swinging For Tomorrow and In Search Of The Grey reflected the power of documentary cinema to capture real lives facts and experiences that inform reflect and inspire audiences.

The animation segment shifted the focus towards imagination celebrating the expressive and technical possibilities of animated storytelling. Showcasing films that translated complex emotions social themes and abstract ideas into visually compelling narratives the segment highlighted the evolving language of animation as a powerful cinematic medium. The films were judged by award winning filmmaker Mr Kabeer Khurana and Mr Vishwang Gowariker Creative Director and Founder of OOZE Studio whose industry expertise added depth to the evaluation.
The shortlisted animated films Dance Again ,113 Words for You Today, Maatitel ,Gone Wrong, Rasmalai Banana Ninja and Cursed demonstrated innovation narrative depth and creative courage. The screenings were followed by an engaging interactive question and answer session that encouraged meaningful dialogue between the jury and aspiring filmmakers.

Together the documentary and animation segments reinforced Kirdaar as a guiding philosophy that recognises every contributor in the filmmaking process while valuing stories rooted in purpose responsibility and depth. Day Two of the Frames Film Festival continued to strengthen its commitment to nurturing young filmmakers encouraging creative exploration and fostering meaningful engagement between students and industry professionals while honouring cinema as both an art form and a socially responsible medium.
The successful execution of the festival was guided by Principal Dr Koel Roy Choudhury, Head of the Department of Multimedia and Mass Communication Mr Mithun Pillai Chairperson, Mr Abhishek Dandekar and the dedicated faculty members of the department. The 23rd edition of the Frames Film Festival continues to uphold its legacy as a platform that nurtures emerging talent encourages thoughtful dialogue and celebrates every kirdaar involved in the art of àacinema.
