German Personal care companies Sebamed and Hindustan Unilever have got embroiled in a war due to soaps advertisement in a print campaign.
The soap includes the Indian company’s mainstay soap brands such as Lux, Dove and Pears
About Company
Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) is the India’s biggest FMCG company.
Whose soap business accounts for roughly a quarter of annual sales.
Where Lux, Pears and Dove together account for a fifth of the entire skin-cleansing product category.
It is the market leader in the Rs 22,000 crore soap segment with a 40% share.
Beginning of the tussle
The concerned raised when the German skincare firm likened HUL’s beauty soaps to their detergent bars in an advertisement.
Stating: “Did you know the pH of Lux is the same as Rin?”
It means HUL soaps can be rough to the skin as their pH levels is 10 which match that of laundry bars.
Not only this much, Sebamed also claimed that the pH level of its product is 5.5, which is perfect for sensitive skin.
What is pH value?
pH is a measure of how acidic a product is. The lower the pH value, the better it is for the skin.
A lower pH indicates that a substance is acidic, while a higher level means it is alkaline in nature. Lower pH levels are known to be milder and better on the skin.
Comment from HUL
“Our products and claims are backed by strong technology and underpinning science, clinical evidence, and decades of expert and consumer-backed testing, enjoying strong brand loyalty,”
“We will take suitable action as we deem fit.” –ET
