Shillong, Meghalaya | March 20, 2026
The North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda & Homoeopathy (NEIAH), Shillong, concluded a landmark two-day National Seminar on Recent Advancements in Ayurveda & Homoeopathy on 19th–20th March 2026 at its campus in Mawdiangdiang, Shillong, Meghalaya. Sponsored by the Ministry of AYUSH, the seminar brought together practitioners, academicians, researchers, and students from across the country, aiming to highlight the latest developments in traditional medical systems and their modern clinical, research, and integrative healthcare applications.

NEIAH: The Northeast’s Premier Hub for Traditional Medicine
NEIAH is an autonomous institute under the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, situated at Mawdiangdiang, Shillong, Meghalaya. As the region’s foremost academic and clinical authority on Ayurveda and Homoeopathy, NEIAH has consistently served as a bridge between ancient healing traditions and modern medical science. This national seminar further cemented its stature as a national leader in promoting evidence-based traditional healthcare.
The event witnessed an enthusiastic turnout of delegates from across India — senior faculty members, practicing physicians, postgraduate scholars, and undergraduate students — all united by a shared commitment to advancing the cause of traditional medicine.
Inside the Seminar: Themes That Shaped the Discourse
A broad range of topics were covered during the two-day event, including the management of non-communicable diseases, reproductive and geriatric health, neuro-musculoskeletal conditions, dermatological disorders, pediatric care, de-addiction therapies, and the role of Ayurveda and Homoeopathy in integrative healthcare.
Eminent resource persons and domain experts led deeply engaging sessions, with discussions focused on bridging the gap between the classical texts of Ayurveda and Homoeopathy and the demands of contemporary clinical practice. A strong emphasis was placed on scientific validation of traditional therapies and evidence-based approaches — a growing priority in the AYUSH ecosystem.
Delegates deliberated on emerging diagnostic methodologies, effectiveness of traditional treatments for conditions that continue to challenge mainstream medicine, and opportunities for integrating traditional knowledge systems with modern healthcare frameworks.
Celebrating Research Excellence
Awards were presented for outstanding research papers, and certificates of participation were provided to all presenters, recognizing their academic contributions to the field.
The research paper presentation sessions were a highlight of the seminar, with postgraduate students and faculty competing enthusiastically — a clear indicator of the vibrant research culture taking root within India’s traditional medicine institutions. Participants widely praised the seminar’s organization, the caliber of speakers, and the rich opportunities for professional networking and academic exchange.
A Vision Rooted in the Northeast
The Union Cabinet had approved the establishment of NEIAH with a vision to provide healthcare to the people of the North Eastern Region through Ayurveda and Homoeopathy, while also promoting bio-resource research and development in the region.
The seminar reflects NEIAH’s ongoing commitment to promoting integrated traditional medicine education, research, and clinical excellence in India, particularly for the North Eastern region, where the institute serves as a key hub for healthcare and academic advancement.
Significance for Northeast India and Beyond
The Northeast of India — endowed with extraordinary biodiversity and centuries-old traditions of herbal and traditional healing — stands at a unique crossroads of indigenous knowledge and contemporary science. Forums like this national seminar are vital in channeling that rich heritage into scientifically validated, clinically applicable treatments, while grooming the next generation of Ayurveda and Homoeopathy professionals equipped to meet modern healthcare challenges.
As the seminar drew to a close, participants departed with enriched knowledge, strengthened professional bonds, and a renewed resolve to carry the legacy of India’s traditional medical systems forward — with rigour, relevance, and pride.
