The US vehicle safety agency “National Highway Traffic Safety Administration” (NHTSA) on Wednesday asked Tesla to recall 158,716 of its Model S and Model X vehicles manufactured before 2019 over safety glitch.
It is a major headache to company as recall car units represent around 10% of Tesla’s lifetime reported production through the end of 2020.
Incident came to light
The incident came to light after several owners of the car complained of touchscreen glitches that led to the loss of several safety-related features.
The failure of the display screen could result in loss of rearview camera as well as impact the Autopilot advanced driver assistance system.
NHTSA Investigation found that, The large central screen on these cars, or the media control unit (MCU) could fail due to its memory storage unit reaching full capacity.
Affected Cars
The affected Cars includes Tesla Model S sedans made between 2012 and 2018, and Model X SUVs made between 2016 and 2018.
Tesla can refuse the recall
However, Tesla can refuse to conduct the recall, only if he present a full explanation of why to NHTSA, which could then propose further action.
