Ranveer Allahbadia has been in the news this week for all the wrong reasons. His distasteful comment in Samay Raina’s India’s Got Latent has garnered criticism from every part of the country.
After several FIRs and complaints, Raina deleted all the episodes of his show and wrote, “Everything that is happening has been too much for me to handle. I have removed all India’s Got Latent videos from my channel. My only objective was to make people laugh and have a good time. I will fully cooperate with all agencies to ensure their inquiries are concluded fairly. Thank you.”
What is India’s Got Latent?
Termed as ‘an unnecessary reality show’, the first episode of India’s Got Latent premiered on 14 June 2024 on YouTube.
According to one of its opening lines, “It’s a pointless reality but it has a very interesting point system.” Contestants from across the country have 1 minute 30 seconds to show their talent, be it singing, dancing, magic, or comedy, before a panel of judges.
Before the performance, each contestant will rate themselves, and if the judges’ average rating matches it, they win and receive the full proceeds from that day’s ticket sales.
The panel mostly includes comedians and YouTubers along with celebs like Raftaar, Rakhi Sawant and Uorfi Javed. It thrives on dark humour, with no topic off-limits. In the past, Samay garnered criticism when he roasted Kusha Kapila on her divorce. In the same episode, he also made fun of his grandfather’s (Nana) demise.
